Big Chip 2013 opened for entries on 9 January 2013 and closed on 18th March. The shortlist was announced on 2 May and the awards were presented at the Big Chip Awards dinner in Manchester on 27 June.

There were several category changes in 2013. The Big Chip Offbeat Award and Best Use of Brand in Digital were new categories with wholly new criteria. Best Start-up replaced Best Newcomer and the Big Chip Imagination Award replaced the Big Chip International Award for Innovation.
