The judges said

The judges thought this project was a fantastic example of the way interactive media is beginning to revolutionize healthcare. The project uses SMS to engage individuals with the service, and links them with key health workers, and the results so far have been dramatic. The service is significantly outperforming benchmarks for more traditional approaches and as a result has been re-commissioned by Bolton Primary Care Trust.

Entrant's description

As part of the Health Foundation Shine 2011 project d2 Digital won a grant to trial a new Alcohol Relapse Prevention Project in conjunction with the Bolton NHS and alcohol services. This intervention programme is highly engaging and supporting interaction between an individual and the service through mobile phones. Our dedicated web-based platform allows services to monitor client performance on a daily basis. It provides an area where feedback can be viewed and motivational encouragement text messages can be inserted for every client; allowing SMS to be highly personalised and relevant to an individual. The platform also provides rigorous reporting.

The judges said

The winner in the Best Public Sector category is a deceptively simple yet innovative application of SMS technology, which delivers significant cost-saving benefits to the commissioning client and potentially life-saving benefits to its users.

Entrant's description

Florence is a very simple telehealth service provided on your mobile phone. Patients submit vital health readings via SMS and receive reminders, health tips, and alerts according to those readings. Clinicians can view readings on graphs that help identify health issues and track long term trends. They save hours by automating simple patient checks and get alerts when things don't look right.

The judges said

The winner of this category delivered an ambitious and polished product to a difficult brief, going way beyond the expectations of the clients, stakeholders and the broader audience.

Entrant's description

The ‘MP for a Week' game places the player firmly in the shoes of an MP, experiencing first-hand the personal and professional dilemmas of a week in politics, taking responsibility for their decisions, and then seeing the implications on their careers. The drama is presented in an ever-changing environment, offering a diverse blend of strategy and experimentation, together with a high level of personalisation. A positive overall rating is the ultimate purpose of the game, just like the real thing. The game presents a uniquely credible and intriguing view of the political process.
