All FM , the community based radio station serving Ardwick, Longsight and Levenshulme in Manchester were picked as Thread's annual pro bono project. The radio station had just been donated a new brand and Thread felt the Web site could be refreshed to reflect this. The design needed to be fresh and non-corporate to run parallel with the brand guidelines set out, it also had to deliver all the content that you would expect form a radio station: play schedules, presenter profiles, advertising slots and news as well as providing a forum, photo galleries and info con courses they run to meet their community remit.
The delivery of the project met accessibility standards and for the first time gave the site a content management system, enabling it to be kept up-to-date. The introduction of a musical menu feature has gone down particularly well and has helped people to create an affinity with the brand and positive feedback has been garnered through the community sections of the site. The site was used by the station to renew its licence, acting as a tool to show the value it delivered to the community and to date it has received over 13,000 visits this year.
Highly Commended 2006
