IT247 is an unusual retail operation, in that it was set up less as a business and more as a software demonstration. Its parent company, Into Technology, had developed IntoScape, a software platform aimed at online resellers. In order to prove its value, the company launched IT247, a retail business in the technology sector, in April 2006.

IT247 has grown into a successful business in its own right, generating over £500,000 in sales orders every month and growing 40% month-on-month since launch. The company believes its IntoScape software gives it a crucial edge, since it allows the site to monitor the availability of over 200,000 products along with pricing information and competitor details.

The judges thought the business showed compelling figures, and described it as standing head and shoulders above the competition in the category.
